Shachi is a budding writer, picture book reviewer, and a storyteller, with a singular focus on introducing children to a new language and culture through picture books.
Raised in India, Shachi moved to Round Rock, Texas a couple years ago with her husband to begin a new life. As an active community member, Shachi volunteers at the Round Rock Public Library. She hosts a monthly bilingual Hindi-English story time. Over the years, the story time has become popular within community, receiving a great response from parents. The joy brought to children’s faces by reading stories to them has always been the driving force for Shachi. She receives immense pleasure and gratification with her story time acts for children. As a result, she decided to look for other ways to spread the joy of picture books beyond her monthly story time catering to the local area.
There are numerous picture books available on the market, and Shachi reads each one to pick only the best picture books to share with parents. Her focus is on cultural diversity, authenticity and engaging content while shortlisting some of the best works available in the market. After all, great books are a window through which a child can see new worlds.
To further, share her passion for children’s literature, Shachi also started www.storiesbyshachi.com as an online resource for contemporary children books and educational materials for parents who wish to teach their children about Hindi as a second language and culture outside of their own native language of English.
Shachi enjoys watching sitcoms, hiking, and reading picture books in her free time.
